Bremerton was founded in 1891 by William Bremer after the Navy bought a large plat of land on Sinclair Inlet. The Navy property eventually became Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Congressman Norm Dicks, Bill Gates Sr., L. Ron Hubbard, and Quincy Jones are from Bremerton.
